Imagined Landscapes
I often think about embodiment, sight, perception, reality, and first-person experiences. As humans, we are so alone in our bodies and minds yet also so connected to one another. It's becoming increasingly difficult for people to see each others’ points of view, so I built an analog camera out of a discarded mannequin head as a metaphorical stand-in for a human. This camera “sees” the earth in a different way than I saw it. Rogue light waves entering the mannequin head impress colorful blemishes onto the film, which then become a legible part of a newly realized terrain. The photographs showcase recognizable markers in harsh horizon lines and ethereal fog banks but never fully reveal a fixed locality. 2013-2020
