I use expired film and paper masks to create photographs that question the separation of beauty and sadness, safety and horror, and the real and the imaginary. Both urban and rural ridge lines often call to mind issues of the monumental and sublime, but also serve as a reminder of tumultuous forces that exist outside of our control. My subjective experience of certain landscapes is lined with both a sublime reverence and a looming darkness, and reminds me of the spreading crack that can break open our way of experiencing time, space, and terrain.
